Hey Tee-ol-ogy Family!!
A few days ago, I came across a social media post that just tickled me but it pretty much sums up the way I see things after this first full week of the new year. The post said “I believe that 2020 put on a wig and came back as 2021!” While I can laugh about this now, I must say that watching the events in DC and seeing certain peoples reaction stirred up an anger in me like never before. It was an “I’m sick and tired” kind of anger!
Now don’t worry, I won’t use this blog post to bash anyone in particular or get political because I understand that I run a business. I am however, a woman of color and I have thoughts and feelings regarding the way African Americans are treated in this country. What took place in our nation’s capital on last week was a blatant display of the fact that black and brown people are handled differently. Now this is a fact that we’ve always known and for the last few years, we’ve witnessed the deaths of our men and women at the hands of those who were supposed to protect and serve us.
My anger about this particular situation came because we all know that if the group of people who attempted to take over the capitol were black or brown, the situation would have ended in a whole different manner. I had to go to God, pour my heart out to him about how I was feeling and continue to pray that one day our lives will matter just as much as anyone else’s.
I created a sweatshirt for my personal collection that I never intended to make available for sale but after this week, I’m making it available to my Tee-ol-ogy family. Check it out in the store under sweatshirts.
