Hi my name is Portia Hinmon and I am the owner and operator of Teeology. I grew up on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and I am the oldest of two girls and an aunt to one biological niece. I am a country girl at heart and spending time with my family is very important to me. I serve as an Elder in my local ministry and have a great love for teaching. Until recently, I was also an account manager for a Fortune 500 company.
I’ve always had a love for creating, but Tee-ol-ogy was born while I was undergoing treatment for breast cancer 5 years ago. My journey of conquering breast cancer strengthened my faith more than ever and gave me the opportunity to experience God as my healer! Being in church for over 30 years, I’ve always known that God is a healer as I’ve witnessed Him do it for family members and friends in my circle, but I personally had never experienced any major health challenges until 5 years ago. Not only did I experience physical healing from breast cancer, but before my diagnosis, I was already on a journey with God for my emotional healing and finding my life’s purpose.
See for years I walked around in what I call “survival mode”. My minds focus was solely on working to try and keep the bills paid and totally stressing OUT during the times when I couldn’t do so. I served God and my church faithfully, but I never considered the fact that I wasn’t walking in the purpose that God created me for. In fact, I never even thought to ask God why He created me or who he created me to be! Yes, I served on my churches praise team, ministerial staff and taught a kids bible study, but those are things that I do in the church not who I am.
So I had to start with the realization that I am what the bible refers to as a “son of God” and allow that truth to grip my heart. See when I gave my life to God, I was automatically adopted into the family of God. That means that I am a joint heir with Christ Jesus and I have total access to God’s promises because I am his daughter! My identity is not who people told me I was, what people expected me to be or even the identity I created for myself based on my experiences. I am first a Daughter of the King!! I found that life just hits different when you realize that you are loved unconditionally by our heavenly Father and that He will never leave you no matter what! This realization totally changed my approach to my relationship with God. I had to begin the process of coming out of low self esteem and ask God to allow me to see myself the way that He sees me because putting myself down or selling myself short of what He created me to be was actually telling Him that what HE created isn’t good enough!
Tee-ol-ogy is my way of taking what I love to do which is creating shirts and marrying the concepts I’ve learned and am still learning while on my journey to fulfilling the purpose and destiny that God created me for! So I pray that the messages of affirmation that I’m bringing to fashion will help you, my customers,(Tee-ol-ogists!) begin to elevate your way of thinking about yourselves and help you on your journey to healing and finding purpose!
